TREES & SHRUBS
1st week: All trees & shrubs must be watered 3 times, to settle the soil in the backfilled area.
1” of rain over 24 hours counts as a watering.
Winter watering: Only necessary during drought. Early winter watering is especially important before the ground freezes so that the tree is insulated with moisture, after the ground freezes.
FLOWERS
Depending on when these are freshly planted, you will follow the guidelines below:
Spring Perennial Plantings
Week 1: Every day to every other day.
Weeks 2-3: Water 2-3x per week, depending on weather.
Weeks 4+: Water 2-3x per week, more in hot/dry conditions. When cooler, water less.
Summer Perennial Plantings
Week 1: Every day.
Weeks 2-6: Water 2-3x per week, depending on temperatures.
Weeks 6+: Water as needed, more in summer and less in fall.
Fall Perennial Plantings
Week 1: Every day to every other day.
Weeks 2-4: Water 1-3x per week, depending on weather
Weeks 4+: Water less as winter approaches. Water evergreens until ground freezes.
Spring and Fall Annual Plantings
Week 1: Water 1-2x per week.
Weeks 2+: As needed. Depending on weather this may be every other day or once a week.
In-ground Summer Annual Plantings
Weeks 1-2: Every other day.
Weeks 3+: Water 1-2x per week, depending on weather
SOD
Keep your new sod well-watered with these guidelines, or adjust the irrigation system as
needed.
New sod is not able to soak up much water at once, and too much water will cause root
rot. Water regularly, but not deeply in the first week.
