One Year Later: Reflecting on the May 16 Tornado in St. Louis

A Changed Landscape Across St. Louis

On May 16, 2025, St. Louis endured one of the worst tornadoes in our city’s history.

5 lives were lost. Over 40 people were injured. More than $1.6 billion in damage changed neighborhoods, parks, homes, businesses, and landscapes across our city.

Our hearts continue to go out to every family, business owner, and community member affected.

At Quiet Village Landscaping, we’ve spent the past year helping clients and neighbors navigate cleanup, recovery, and rebuilding. While storm damage can be measured in fallen trees, broken structures, and debris, some of the hardest changes have been emotional.

For many of us who grew up here, the loss has been difficult to process.

Supporting Our Community Through Storm Cleanup and Recovery

Quiet Village is fortunate to have the resources and team capacity to provide emergency storm cleanup services. It is an honor to support our clients and community during such difficult times.

One of the clients we supported after the tornado was Brittany, a valued Quiet Village client of five years, whose property experienced significant storm damage.

When Landscaping Becomes Part of Healing

Landscapes are emotional spaces.

They’re where children play barefoot in the grass. Where families gather for summer dinners. Where people drink coffee on quiet weekend mornings. Where shade trees planted decades ago become part of the identity of a home.

When a storm removes those elements overnight, it’s more than disorienting.

Over the past year, many homeowners across St. Louis started asking important questions:

  • How do we replace large mature trees?
  • How can we redesign outdoor spaces that no longer feel the same?
  • What does long-term landscape recovery look like after a major storm?

There’s no perfect answer, and every property is different. But thoughtful landscape restoration can help create a sense of normalcy again.

Restoring Outdoor Spaces After the St. Louis Tornado

As properties continue to recover, many homeowners are beginning to focus on long-term restoration instead of immediate cleanup.

That may include:

  • Removing fallen or damaged branches
  • Replanting large canopy trees for future shade
  • Repairing drainage and erosion issues
  • Redesigning outdoor living spaces
  • Rebuilding privacy and screening with layered plantings
  • Creating landscapes that feel peaceful, usable, and comforting again

Even small improvements can help a property feel like home again.
